COMANCHE ST. REMODEL

2,168 sq. ft.

Before and After

HISTORY

Built in 1924, this 2,168 sq. ft. home was originally a duplex built by  H. E. Walker as the parsonage for the Nazarene Church, located at Porter and Alameda (now the home of Donate A Miracle Thrift Store & Boutique) with the same materials. Mr. Walker also built the Midway Deli building. Prior to 1940, it was sold to the young Hendrix couple, H.V. (age 26, a chemical engineer with Phillips Petroleum) and Esther (age 22, college), who lived there at least during the 1940 Census. At some point between the 1940 Census and the mid-1960s, the property was owned by Saint Joseph's Catholic Church and was the home of the nuns.

From the 1960s until the mid-2000s, the home was owned by George and Helen Lee Kammerlocher.

The Duplex was built in commercial style, sharing the same materials as the church:

  • Exterior red brick

  • Exterior walls constructed of clay block (no exterior wall wood studs)

  • Stain glass window

  • Exterior doors

  • Interior doors
